Before and After Photos
Background
Natural aging, weight shifts, and breastfeeding can alter the shape of the breasts or affect the size of the areola, which is the dark area surrounding the nipple. Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, enhances or restores the shape of the breasts. Patients in Ontario often consult Dr. Ashraf to understand the average cost and see before and after photos of breast lift surgeries.
Characteristics of the ideal candidate include:
- Good general health
- A need to reposition and raise the breasts
- A need to reduce the size of the areola
Loose skin and sagging breasts
Process
Breast lift surgery is an outpatient procedure. Following incision, breast tissue is reshaped and repositioned. Excess skin around the breast is removed and tightened. The nipple is also repositioned on the lifted breast. In Ontario, discussing the price and examining before and after images of a breast lift is a standard part of the consultation process.
Please note that a breast lift cannot increase the size of a patient’s breasts. Please visit our section on breast augmentation, which is often performed in conjunction with a breast lift.
Recovery
Dr. Ashraf provides detailed post-operative checklists to her surgical patients. Generally, she recommends her patients do the following:
- Plan to take at least one week off from work or regular routine for recovery. No heavy lifting, swimming, or wearing underwires for at least 6 weeks following surgery.
- Continue to monitor health, and prioritize weekly follow-up appointments 4-6 weeks after surgery. Post-surgical follow-up appointments are critical.
- Take prescribed pain medications as required by the physician. Most patients are off these medications after 1 week.
- Be gentle with the recovery process. Scars continue to fade up to 1 year (and sometimes 2 years) after surgery.
