Preparation

You will receive a set of tailored preparation instructions during your consultation. Following these closely facilitates a smooth procedure and recovery with optimal results.

You will likely be advised to:

  • Discontinue medications and supplements that may thin the blood, as these may interfere with your healing process.
  • Avoid alcohol consumption, and nicotine use should fully cease several weeks in advance.
  • Prepare to shift your diet to softer meals that require minimal chewing.
  • Arrange transportation to and from the procedure.
  • Prepare to take several days away from your job and social commitments.

Procedure

When you arrive for your procedure, you will be led to one of our private rooms. We start the procedure by cleansing your skin and administering a local anesthetic to your chin and jaw. Dr. Ashraf will then either make an intraoral or submental incision. An intraoral incision is made inside the mouth, and a submental incision is made below the chin. (2) These incision placements are chosen to help minimize any potential scarring. A chin implant is then carefully placed over the chin bone just below the skin to enhance its projection and shape. If needed, Dr. Ashraf may also reshape the chin bone.

Recovery

After a chin augmentation and lift, you may experience a moderate level of swelling or discomfort around the treatment area. These effects typically begin to diminish after five to seven days, but may also be managed by resting with your head elevated and using pain medications as directed. During this time, it is recommended to consume softer foods and avoid chewing.

After approximately one week, you may return to work and other light activities, but you will need to continue avoiding high-impact activities and physical exercise until you are cleared by Dr. Ashraf.

Results

You will be able to see immediate improvements in the appearance of your chin after your procedure, but the full results will be seen several months later, after swelling has diminished. You will be able to enjoy a more refined chin shape, more proportionate projection, and a sharper jawline. (3) The results of your chin augmentation and lift are designed to be long-lasting, with chin implants offering a generally permanent enhancement.
